Life Is Crazy

There's so much that can be talked about after listening to this show but the one thing that hit me was when my sister's ex introduced me to Black Rob back in day. Now the both of them are doin serious time for seperate robberies. To Jazzo and all my peeps locked down, hold your head...

This is so sick. Shine fucking eats that intro beat...Wow. Soul, you produced the first track? Thanks for sharing this show with us man. I'm a Mass guy so I missed a lot of great NYC radio stuff, I'm always grateful when someone posts up old shows for download. This stuff is such an important part of raps history.

No, i did not produce anything on Shyne's first album... The tracks played during this mix are from Shyne's debut album which dropped the Tuesday after this show was aired...

Say what you want about Shyne, but out of the hundreds of artists that passed through the two radio shows I did from 1990-2000, he was one of, if not the, most appreciative and vocally thankful for the exposure. I found that remarkably refreshing, considering he was on Bay Boy and had a lot of hype created around him. He actually called me that Monday to say thank you, which caught me off guard because that kind of thing just never happened. I can't front though, Black Rob was always dumb cool, ever since coming up with Cru...bubblin'.

Man.. Not for nothing, I miss that Friday party at El Flamingo also..

Yo Soul..I miss when a MC use to go up to show and spit for days. You don't see it anymore. Thanx guys for the memories. El Flamingo was the shit too. Big John and Tony use to beef about the "tennis shoes"..there were mad heads with kix on outside...Black Rob was a regular lol..
What about Nix with the elevator??? We went up together with with Shyne Po one night....Who spun there? I was mad young...crazy how much time has passed!...Peace!

DJ SOUL said...

What up Sinatra? Somebody needs to get Eric Lapeau up in here to tell the story about me fighting in the dj booth at Nix... I thought I was gonna have to pay for a wall in which sombody went thru... Fucking amazing....

STRETCH ARMSTRONG said...

Ah that was me at El Flamingo son!

Yes Stretch, I remember... It was almost 10 years ago...

Sick shit.. I remember back in the day, during my high school years from 1996-2000, I would sit in my room listening to the Hot 97 late night shows with the casette tape on record, and then I would bump that shit the next day on the Walkman in class and shit.. Good times for real

good stuff, nice to hear people appreciate what they have, he def. cares about the music moreso than the industry does, never checked for him too much to be honest but now i will not be so judgemental about commerical rappers

I used the word "dude" 3 times in that comment. 3 times too many. Regardless, once again, thanks for puttin that one up, as well as the Kid Capri mix.

P.S. Stretch, you still playing tennis on the regular? Whereabouts?

STRETCH ARMSTRONG said...

Haha- yeah I play a few times a week, usually at the US Tennis Center in Flushing.

You play tennis?

i'm the 20th comment!!! Please bless us with some more vintage radio shows / mixtapes please!!!

Peace...

Damn. My tennis game is more aspirational than anything else. I was gonna challenge you to a match, but maybe it's smarter to ask for some lessons...

I always check the MIC CHECK and to add to the comments on the Stretch show... did SHYNE call him FLEX in the first few of minutes of the show? Don't stop blessing us with the goodies!!! PEACE

STRETCH ARMSTRONG said...

Throughout my time in the hip-hop dungeon, I have been called Flex and Serch an unusual amount of times.

DJ SOUL said...

Yo Stretch, could they see u in the booth? Your response (later in the show) to Rob accidently calling u Flex was classic. Regardless, this is what make classic radio.. Good personalities, comedy, hungry artists and good music...

STRETCH ARMSTRONG said...

yeah, i was on the stage.
