Over the weekend, I found this show and wasn't sure if I wanted to post it... But after I bumped into Kid Capri last night at the Giants party, I changed my mind... Happy b-day homie!
speaking of mixmaster weekend im looking for the show when pete rock was on mixmaster weekend in like 98 and he played a remix of royal flush worldwide that he did. Do you have that?
before y'all get all crazy on me, understand i'm not from New York and until i saw Capri in person at The Masquerade here in Atlanta in March of '92, i thought he was just a rapper with a pretty decent album. (i was pretty much a bedroom DJ at this point who used to spend my checks on all the new releases and his "The Tape" album was one of my faves) i went up to him and asked "yo how many songs are you performing tonight?" he looked at me like "wtf???" yeah, i felt pretty dumb haha.
then he proceeded to play everything DOPE under the sun for the next 3 hours. i'd never heard a DJ play like him before and i'll never forget that night. seeing him stack about 150 records in a pile and play and catch EVERY single break on them without missing a beat in about 25 minutes while simultaneously rocking the mic???
are you KIDDING me???
that STILL ranks among some of the most super fantastic shit i've ever witnessed on turntables.
yeah there maybe DJ's who are technically more skilled than him but there are a LOTTA wick wick wack Capri imitators floating around the world and i wish i could just go up to them and tell them all to eat a fat dick cause none can compare to the original. as far as rockin parties go, niggaz gotta BOW THE FUCK DOWN...
small world. i was at that same party, while going to school down in ATL. that was one of the best parties i attended while in school - top 5. all i can do is co-sign everything you're saying. i'm from NJ, so i was able to see him in nyc when it was a different party scene and in the atl.
big up to everyone in my crew who partied like hell that night!
gotta love the fact that he played the YG'z "Groove On", that was one of my JOINTS that got much run back in them days... i have a Kid Capri radio tape from like '93 around this muhfucka somewhere and when i find it i'll definitely bless the world with it. he was destroying shit like "Here We Go" by Original Flavor, "Psycho" by LOTUG, "Poppa Large", Little Shawn's "I Made Love For The Very First Time", Diamond's "Best Kept Secret" (45 King Remix) amongst others. back when radio mixshows were the SHIT!!!
yeah more radio shows. and that groove joint was sick. an exclusive white label that was hard to obtain. capri on bls...yo you need to post those immediately.
