LTD x Moli's New Blog

Photobucket
Later on this week, I'll be joining the LTD blog over on Moli (alongside Vashtie, Neil Armstrong and Wendy from Nitrolicious). What am I going to post about? I have no idea. But I just found out the name of my column is "Diggin In The Internets." I still can't believe I agreed to do this...

And in case you're like me and wondering what the hell is "the internets," check out this video...

Goodbye Lotus!

Two weeks ago, one of New York City's longest opened night clubs (of this decade) closed it's doors. The first night I played there was when Frank Roberts & Jovar started the Sunday Night party (which would later become Damon & Nitro's party). From '02 until sometime in 2005, I was one of the few dj's that was a resident (along with Ruckus, Stretch and Ani). Later in '06, I became the resident for Bill Spector & Ofeer's Wednesday party. This was basically my house! Since there are so many memories, I've decided to post some some pic's from over the years...

And last but not least, I can't forget about the 1992 party which started out in the basement almost two years ago. The video's below have a bunch of pic's from the first three parties and of course, I was the resident who got on when it was prime time

I wonder how Noel Gallagher feels now?

DJ S&S & Craig G

For this week, I was planning to post "Niggaz Don't Give A Fuck" and talk about how Craig G was sort of a mentor when I moved to Brooklyn in the summer of '94. He was working in the basement of Music Factory (in Fulton Mall) and that had become my second home. Fam schooled me on how the mixtape game worked and how much politics were involved within the dj circuit and the music industry. A few months after meeting him, Funk Flex made him a member of The Flip Squad and Craig quit Music Factory. After that, he dropped several dope mixes including this collaberation with S&S...

Earlier today, I listened to the cassette and realized that I had taped over a majority of it, so as a plan B, here's a gem from another good friend of mine... Courtesy of the Know Good Music Blog.

This Ain't Right...

Shaq is back on the mic and this time it's with a vengeance. My question is why did he have to make that Ewing comment?

Buju!

Does anybody remember when New York DJ's would play dancehall at parties? That shit doesn't happen anymore. Maybe if they did, this record would've been a hit...

New Shit! Alicia Keys Remix

Earlier this week I played at the Alicia Keys tour wrap party (check out the pic's here). I haven't played an industry event like this in a minute. Usually cats are standing around networking and playing too cool for school or usually the dj just isn't good enough to rock the party. Well from the beginning of my set to the end, people were wilding. A special thanks goes out to Miss Keys, Russ Jones, Blue, BMK, J Records and Vitamin Water for putting together a great event! Also, big shouts to Johnny Nunez, D-Nice (Happy B-Day), Chad Hogan and to all the label reps who were begging me to play their record.

That New Busta Rhymes Single

I'm sick of hearing dj's trying to mix this record. So for all you people out there (especially Mark Ronson) who want to play it, play this version instead. It has a 8 bar drum intro and some horns right before his first verse... Shouts to Theo at Interscope. You want your spins up, here u go... Now where are my fucking drops?

The Return of Mixtape Wed's

Yup, it's been a minute since I've posted some mixtapes. You think I'm just gonna give everything away that fast? Hell no! Now, since it's still spring (technically) I've decided it's time to give Clue some shine. When he dropped Volume 1 of the Springtyme Stick Up Series in 1995, he was officially crowned the number #1 mixtape DJ in New York City...

This was also recorded in '95 (before Spring Tyme Stick Up).

PS - Springtyme Part's 2 & 3 will be posted next year since they came out in '96. Maybe I'll post Scarecrow's B-Day soon...

The Bowe Vs Golota Riot

Man... My blog only gets better by the minute! Live from Madison Square Garden, check out Lou Duva getting carried out on a stretcher like Mickey in Rocky 3. George Foreman tries to play peace maker and HBO keeps the cameras rolling as people in the stands start fighting! Brownsville was definitely in the house!

Charles Smith

So the Lakers lost the series. At least this didn't happen...

When this game occured, Phil Jackson was the coach of the Bulls and Doc Rivers was coming off the bench for the Knicks... In a sense, this can be considered payback...

Wild Animals...

People getting arrested for fighting pitbulls in the Bronx? Fuck that.. I want to see Giraffes going toe to toe like Thomas Hearns & Marvin Hagler.. How I've never seen footage of this is incredible...

PS - new music coming soon...

For all my peoples in Miami, I'll be rocking at Club Nikki on Saturday and on Sunday, I'm coming back to da Rotten Apple to spin at Home. If anybody wants to come thru, hit me on the beeper...

Beantown

It's only right that I do this since game 3 of the Lakers and Celtics is tonight and I'm in Boston to play an event celebrating Converse's 100 year anniversary... Shouts to Jason, Angelo and the entire crew over there for together a great event!

PS - Both Bernard King and the React ads with Larry Johnson as Grandmama need posts of their own but I don't have time for that at the moment... Just sayin....

The Talkbox

Not to be confused with the vocoder or autotune (which I mentioned in the Troutman post). Check out this footage of Stevie Wonder flipping it...

Ayo Technology!

It's a damn shame Timbaland never cleared this sample... I wonder how much they're owed in publishing and if they'll get any royalties...

The Troutman's

There is no question that T-Pain is nice with that vocoder / autotuner. Now that Weezy, 50 and Kan Yeezy (among others) are pushing it to the limit, let's give credit where it's do....

Paging Dr Carter

Just when I was ready to give Swizz Beats some props for digging up a David Axelrod sample, it turns out that the track is featured on the Grand Theft Auto 4 soundtrack... So much for going to a record convention or paying Ken Sport for that obscure break.
