Big L & J Dilla

Just when I thought the Assorted Donuts saga was over, I get a phone call from my boy asking me if I saw Video Music Box the other night. I ask him why and he tells me that Ralph played videos of Mos Def's "Miss Fat Booty" and Redman's "The Saga Continues" with the remixes I did replacing the original tracks. A few months later and I've finally got the videos with a surprise bonus!

"Put It On Remix"
(From Assorted Donuts)

It's only right that I post this video first because Big L's birthday is on Friday. And on that note, I think now is a good time to announce that I'm currently working on a Big L mixtape that will be released as a free online download only on February 15th of 2009. The mix is to mark the ten year anniversary of Big L's passing and will contain all original material along with some unreleased tracks. A huge thank you goes out to Lord Finesse for letting me put this together...

PS - I'll be posting another Assorted Donuts video on Monday...

L.A. Is The Place

Some pic's (courtesy of Glenjamn) from the party last Monday in L.A. Shouts again to everybody who came out. More pics and maybe some video from the Alife event coming soon.

Connect Four

After hearing that the Santogold video for L.E.S. Artists was influenced by two films by Alejandro Jodorowsky (the first scene by El Topo and the second by The Holy Mountain) I decided to pick up the box set and check em' out.
Now I've seen some bizarre movies but these two definitely take the cake. Storywise, El Topo wins because of the crazy ass mexicans and the revenge story but visually, The Holy Mountain gets that. While I'm on the subject of Santogold, I have to give some shine to Res (Santo wrote a majority of her debut album and it never got the props it deserved). So on that note, here's a remix of the second single with the little homie Nas...

The Diddy / R&B Classics Mix

Back in 2005, while I was spinnin The CFDA Awards after-party at Bungalow 8, someone from Bad Boy approached me and told me that Diddy wanted a mixtape of what I was spinnin that night. I found it kind of weird because I had played his CFDA Awards after-party a year earlier at Marquee and got a bad review (I think it was because I was wearing a Ralph Lauren Polo T-Shirt). Anyhow, a few weeks later I got a call from Bad Boy requesting for the mix again cuz Diddy was in St Tropez and wanted something to listen to. Later that night I linked up with El Saeso at La Esquina and we ran over the Williamsburg Bridge into Brooklyn to the Manhattan Bridge and back into the city. This was my first case of catching a runner's high and I couldn't go to sleep. What I did instead was record this. Enjoy...

Suge Knight on TMZ Television

I've seen this show a few times on Fox and this is the first time I've seen the African American lady. Is she new or is she one of those reporters that the director decided to assign the hood news to?

The Cipha Sounds Post

Since everybody and their grandmother has a blog now, it's only right to give props to the few that are worth checking. In case u don't know who Cipha is... He came up under Dj Riz. Got his start working on the Wildman Steve show on 90.3. Worked at Fat Beats. Linked up with Funk Flex and Jessica Rosenblum. Went on tour as Lil Kim's DJ. Worked as an A&R at Rawkus (where he took pride in clowning everybody except me) and later at The Neptunes label Star Trak.

From Monday to Friday, u can catch him hosting the morning show on Shade 45. On Saturdays he's does the More Fiyah mix on Hot 97 and in between all of that, he's the host for Sucker Free. Oh yeah, he also has a record label and a monthly comedy show. The pic above was taken a year and half ago. As I was walking into the dj booth at Deep, homeslice was in the corner sleeping while DJ AM was spinnin and if you know AM, you know the monitor was on full blast! To this day I never understood how he was able to sleep thru all of that noise but after seeing how busy he is, it all makes sense.

PS - He's posted a few mixtapes over on his blog (Mixes 8 by Ron G and another joint by G-Bo Da Pro & Double R). Good luck e-digging!

Skid Row

Okay, I'm feeling political today... A few days ago, I got booked to spin a few parties in the City Of Angels and the other night, I randomly caught a documentary by Pras (of The Fugee's) about Skid Row (which is part of the downtown area of Los Angeles). He pretended that he was homeless and tried to film it, which happened and didn't (if you've been to Skid Row over the past few years, then you might understand). Anyhow I fell asleep watching it and earlier today, I looked up some footage online and came across this documentary from some writer from the LA Weekly. 5 parts altogether (about 30 min's without the intro and outro of each part). Definetely worth checking out if you're interested on how this country gets down!

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Part 4

Part 5

On a side note, if you've never seen Michael Moore's film 'Sicko' which is based on health insurance in the United States, check out the following clip and make sure u see it...
