Aight... This is a confusing post because it was posted after the consumption of alot of patron and without the track included... Now, what me and Just were trying to figure out was if the drums and horns in Tapp's version was sampled from another source...

Jaycee said...

okay, i see. uh, well i'll go back and listen to the Tapp jawn at high volume. and i forgot to mention the DJ who bootlegged it is Brooklyn's "Strongest Finisher In The Game", DJ Mister Cee, on Tape Kingz Records. this was one of my favorite "party break" style records of all time and since we're on party breaks, what you know about Crush Sounds "Bring It On Back" with the chopped up "Mo' Money Mo Problems" sample and Biggie saying "Is Brooklyn In The House" over it??? i remember Al Lindstrom (when he worked at Tommy Boy) buying doubles of that joint from Rock And Soul for me and sending it to me in Atlanta to play on the air...
sorry for going on this tangent on your blog but i've had a few shots of Patron too many tonight as well...

one last party break shout...

Crooklyn Clan "Oh No" where Riz and Sizzahandz went '87 Mantronik/ '84 Latin Rascals style on the Noreaga/DMX/Jay-Z edits. them niggaz set the production bar so high with that one, you gotta agree with me...

i'll hit you on hotmail later, peace...

DJ SOUL said...

Shiiiiiiiitttttt....

Now, there's no denying the bar that Riz and Siz set for doin party breaks in the mid to late 90's... Aside from all of the crossover tracks, "Ladies Anthem" and the intro of "NYS Anthem" still get heavy burn from me in the clubs...

But if u really wanna take it back, Kenny Dope is the one who really set the bar!

"Supa" (both versions) = classic!

"Budy Bye" (Hip Hop Mix) = classic!

"Get Up" = classic!

That Powerhouse 3 album = slept on!

All the rest of those break records that came out in the early 90's... Slept on!

DJ SOUL said...

I can't forget about "Blood Vibes".

"Shake That Ass" by Cee is defintely top 5!

Flex had some joints also with "C'mon Baby" and "Dope On Plastic" (which was originally produced by Salaam Remi if my memory is right)...

Whatever happened to DJ Spinna's "Everybody Bounce"? That was big on the party scene in the mid 90's...

Damn, I need to rip the rest of my party breaks!

Jaycee said...

you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!! how the fuck did i not mention Kenny Dope????

the Masters At Work double album that had "Get Up" on it had another jawn where he freaked Cheryl Lynn's "Got To Be Real"...

"Budy Bye" was definitely smashing shit...can't forget his Bucketheads "All In The Mind" album either...

the Funkmaster Flex joints on Wreck were mostly dope and yea Salaam killed the "Dope On Plastic" (dilly dally i ran thru the alley) wow...

can't forget Stik E & The Hoodz "Shake Whatcha Mama Gave Ya"...

or how about this one??? i bought it from Rock & Soul when i came up in '98 for the Mountain Dew Mix Off that Skribble won...

my man DJ Kemo from Vancouver produced a joint in that was pretty ill using Big Pun's "Still Not A Player" as the basis, and then rocked some Rakim, Austin Powers, and Brenda Russell samples on top of it. it's called "Still Shag A Lot" on Muy Caliente Records. his production crew is called The Labratz...

i'll email u his shit and u can post it whenever u wish...or better yet you can hit him yourself since we're all brothers of the same mind, djkemo@gmail.com and tell him i sent you. he did tracks and cuts for the crew from Vancouver called The Wascals, really good dude. aight, goin to bed for real now...

later...

Jaycee said...

ahh Spinna. "Everybody Bounce" just got some run from me the other day. have u heard his flip of Kool And The Gang's "Chocolate Buttermilk"? no word for it other than "amazing"

"Sad And Blue"...

"puerto rico" is another classic...

i'm out...

DJ SOUL said...

Frankie Cutlass's "Puerto Rico" is definetley top 3!

U can't forget about "Wede Man."

Dope's flip of "Got to be Real" was my shit also!

"Hypnotize" by Todd Terry is a classic...

That Sad N Blue record was great cuz it individually spereated the breaks and it also had "Six Million Ways" on the b-side... What ever happened to Nine?

Chef Lowe... Where u at?

DJ SOUL said...

And last but not least "Zulu War Chant" by Afrika Bambaataa...

Both versions of this record are classic!

Jaycee said...

last one...

Nine and Jesse West did a joint called "24/7" in late '98 where they rapped over a slowed down "Drummer's Beat" break, but it was slower than normal with bits of the Commodores' "Assembly Line" in it. that's the last i heard of him/them...i remember it being white label for a while but i think that eventually came out on LOUD. Chef Lowe's definitely the dude to ask. i used to come up from Atlanta just to go to The Tunnel on Sundays with him and Chris Green. fun times...

and what about the Funkmaster Flex black label joint where he was simply billed as "The Franchise" and he was cutting up different tv themes over Slick Rick's "Mona Lisa" beat...

i think that was a limited pressing type deal...and i'm not hip to the "Powerhouse 3", what was that?

DJ SOUL said...

Didn't hear the Spinna flip of Chocolate Milk or the Kemo mix with Pun... I never got that tv theme break record (wasn't my cup of tea) but i remember Flex used to run it to death...

Sundays at the Tunnel was the shit for me from 94 til 96/97... Security in there was no joke!

Powerhouse was a ep of 5 tracks... One was a party break/ remake of Booker T & The MG's "Melting Pot". Another was a a house remake of Gil Scott's "The Bottle. Another was a hip-hop break and the other two were house tracks...

DJ SOUL said...

And I do have that Crush Sound record (red label) with the B.I.G. Brooklyn chant... I believe Chris Landry used to put those out. I remember DJ Ev did one of them.

Soul what up! U get my package yet? Party breaks were/are my passion, this post was highly enjoyable, can talk about these all day...a few records hopefully bringing up good memeories...

Frankie Cutlas or DJ Cutlass Supreme "Funky Smile" on East Harlem Records(1993)...samples Greg Nice 'Funky Funky' then in the middle goes into 'My Girl'...it was labeled as the East Side Hoods as the artist, but its pretty much just Frankie..

Kenny Dope - Pick it Up
Kenny Dope - Rock Da Haus Anna on Phat Wax...

all the NubianCrackers stuff on BIG BEAT and Slammin' Records...

Masters at Work - Buddha Chant

oh, what was DJ Enuff one with the GZA Clan in the Front, Let the Feet Stomp, then the ESG break beats comes in followed by the whole darn family..I think it was Tape Kingz, I can t find it righ now..

Armand Van Helden had soem joints to, Word Up Doc I am the Ultimate..and that Q Tip Hot Butta one with the Mass Appeal beat..

sorry for along ass comment this shit gets me hype..

DJ SOUL said...

What 7L...

I got that package. Good looking out! The mix is crazy! I'll post it in the next week or two...

Also, I need your info again... Hit me at the gmail address...

In regards to Armand, those joints were classic. If I'm right, that was the first party break released on AV8.. I have all of the Nubian Cracker joints on slammin and Big Beat and the Enuff break with the Deck chorus...

There was another Kenny Dope record that sampled T.R.O.Y. and Shabba ranks among other tracks... I think it was called Axxis. Is that what you're talking about?

Nerd Festival.

Nick said...

do you have the tapp on 12"? i been looking for that and their it's your birthday EP with "Dikkontrol" for the longest.

Anonymous said...

not the Axxis one, this was on the Masters at Work Album, it had the Ultra drums, Jackson 5 'Its great to be here', Shabba vocal Hook, I think 'Hector' was also layed in there somewhere, in the middle it broke down to De La 'Pass the Plugs' sample..I mean that album had a bunch of dope Party Breaks...also that Brooklyn Slum Lords, I think it was Scribble, Riz and Eclipse on Nervous...they had that dope one that sampled Snoops Aint No Fun w/Award Tour, Aint Nothing But a Party i think it was called...I gotta rip that...ok, nerd fest done...

DJ SOUL said...

I remember the Kenny Dope mix now. Shabba is mumbling something about "boggle don."

I have the Slum Lords... Need to rip that also...

Anybody remember Frankie The Pacemaker?

DJ KAST ONE said...

daaammm, this post is about to have me digging in the break crate for a min..can't forget the uptown bangers in the 90's puerto rico by frankie cutlass, the party anthem joint by doug e fresh, and the break that had used the benjamins beat that had lovebug starski on it, that was done by mister cee....i cant remember the name...scratch that..just remembered it was called the veteranz....AH GET YOUR GROOVE ON, STOP PLAYING...lol...so cheesy but classic in the bx and harlem...

DJ SOUL said...

Kast on the check in! That Veteranz record was by Starski, Hollywood & Brucie B... Cee produced it.

I remember hearing that for the first time up in Maria Davis's party at Esso's... It was getting some play, but once Crooklyn Clan dropped the Benjaminz, it was a wrap...

ELYESKOBAR said...

that's not the original version of tapp

Hi

I got a mashup which you were supposedly talking about in a comment saying:
what you know about Crush Sounds "Bring It On Back" with the chopped up "Mo' Money Mo Problems" sample and Biggie saying "Is Brooklyn In The House" over it?I've uploaded it here:
http://www.divshare.com/download/7489308-43b

Can you help me identifying what other tracks are in it?
Especially the tune at 00:57-01:02.

Thanks!
